Sue is the face of the sitcom BAGGAGE - A comedy about not letting go

Here's more about the show...

Does it Bring You Joy?

When a passive-aggressive minimalist & a sentimental hoarder fight to keep a dysfunctional inner-city storage unit from closure, they learn what it means to let go.This is for the explosion of Marie-Kondo followers, de-cluttering enthusiasts, wellness hipsters, zen yogi’s or anyone looking to let go of something they are holding onto.

Extract from the synopsis:

At the helm of the shambolic inner-city branch of the nationwide ‘Cling-Ons Storage Centre’, we find Sue Fennel: a passive-aggressive, minimalist pseudo-monk, fighting to become the first female board member and simultaneously enlighten all those around her. She’s recently rebranded with her spiritual name which she believes to mean ‘Joy’ in Sanskrit, but she’ll later learn means ‘Computer Joystick’. Reluctantly fronting the Cling-ons reception is her underling Joshua, a Romanian/British hoarder with a record-breaking cardigan collection, and a bigger archive of unperformed plays. Instead of helping anyone around her, she spends her days in her unit, performing a contradictory mash-up of flat-packed pop spirituality to her Social Media followers, and casting aspersions on anyone who dares enter Cling-Ons with any more than a shoe-box to their name.
Each episode spotlights the back-story of one or two characters, what led them to their unit, and how they will cause a threat to Cling-On’s already dysfunctional state. Every week we also meet at least one minor character who will then become the spotlight in the next episode. From Lenny the alcoholic children's entertainer who strolls around the units in his clown suit blowing up balloons, to the aging songstress with dementia, June who sleeps in her unit believing it to be a hotel room on an opera tour...Somehow the ‘Cling-ons’ storage ends up being the most unlikely of refuges for them all. As they deal with one near disaster to the next, they walk the tightrope between minimalism and attachment, and each discover the balance between holding onto what’s important, and letting go.

The setting:

We’ve based the physical space on the nationwide storage chains Big Yellow and Access. All the action takes place in the storage units of our characters. We never name the city so it could exist anywhere in Britain. The theme BAGGAGE taps into is our current obsession with downsizing, de-cluttering, Marie Kondo, and the explosion of storage units in a world that is becoming more and more transient.
On one side we have the recognition that if you really love something, you sometimes have to let it go, and that hoarding has recently been recognised as a mental health disorder. Yet booms in divorce, remote working & cheap airfares have helped us shed the trappings of a once 2.4 family and home definition, and together with Apple’s ‘inbuilt obsolescence’ have done nothing but fuel our growing need to consume, and to cling-on.
Indeed, we now struggle with getting pregnant, and have to let go of that rose-tinted picture of parenthood, the stay-at-home-mum, the 9-5 routine, or even of having children. We all carry emotional and physical baggage, and have things we can and cannot let go of. The writers are also working on sketches about mental illness and as exploring mental health through comedy is a big passion of theirs, Baggage will touch on this too.

I am thorough when it comes to a client visit, and each of the 17 hours needed to align the contents of this cupboard have been worth it. Always ask yourself, does it spark incandescent joy, or rather a discomfort in your solar plexus? Keep an eye out for more helpful tips on mind-body synthesis and mouse droppings.

We are looking for :

Short-term, we are developing a series of short (1-2 mins each) videos known as "minimalist modules" for social media, which have already started on SueFennelsBaggage IGTV and Facebook pages. Long-term, we have a pilot script for a six-part sitcom. We would love a producer that can help with either!
