Episode 27 - Vanity
Our culture is so superficial. Everyone cares about what they look like, but you're not supposed to be so obvious about it. You've got to play it cool playing cool.

A simple set up
Fri 27 September 07:21pm
Paul Carroll and Jennifer Byrne discuss human vanity - next week's episode.
Our team of 4 are really loving working on this project. The seeds of the project were sown several years back. We've all worked in cinemas or other front of house roles at one time or another. We didn't have to look far for the idea of two overly-entitled people working in a cushy job. The inane and sometimes illogical chatter that people share with too much time on their hands, and while working a boring low-status job, was all too familiar to us, and the irony of two people forever talking about moving on to bigger and better things, while never actually taking steps themselves to achieve those goals seemed like a good premise.
We've always been a fan of comedy which highlights hypocricy, human flaws and fundamentally amusing human emotions; anger, jealousy, irritation, pride, envy, impatience, etc. Mix that with the comedy legacy of Peter Cook & Dudley Moore, Joseph Heller, Woody Allen, Stephen Wright, Bill Hicks (and many others), we've always enjoyed the comedy of ideas; absurdity, non-sequiturs, false logic, philosophical notions. A leap from the mundane to the ridiculous, or the opposite, an absurdity run to it's logical conclusion.
Thinking Inside the Box is a year long series that posits a different half-cocked philosophical notion or observation each week, with two apathetic individuals who consider themselves great thinkers but fail to recognise the inanity of their flawed philosophies.
Comedy can be found in the bathos of a profound notion as it's shot by an arrow and comes tumbling back down to earth.

Wed 11 September 02:15pm
Episode 24 - Idleness
It's tiring isn't it? Doing nothing. It's a wonder these two stick around. They're lucky they still choose to work there.

Episode 23 - Possessions
The thing that holds us back most is our attachment to possessions. To let go of that is the only way to be free.

They followed this up with 'The Story of Our Time' which was a finallist in the London Sundance Film Competition, and a number of shorts which have been selected in various festivals.

In terms of development we have a team ready to film these and the task for us will be to create a marketing campaign behind it to build an audience that could then be taken on to the next project. But we are always interested in meeting new future collaborators; writers, actors, producers, editors etc.
We have always worked with a small and collaborative team, preferring a casual on-set atmosphere without the pressure of a larger crew.
This project could certainly be developed into a larger format sitcom set in a cinema and expanded to include the projection room, concessions counter and bar, with episodes focussed around training, premieres and other events.
But for the time being our development plan will be to raise some money to put this series into festivals and create a following online.
