What the Frick

What's it all about

ABOUT: Austrian Lisl Frick, escapes the Alps to follow a few of her favourite things: doing comedy and being openly gay. Thinking that London needs another comedian, she breaks free from her conservative parents, who want her to take over the family business and get married to her cousin Hansl (Gatis Kandis, known from ‘Britain’s Got Talent’) and ventures to London. Chasing her dream, wide-eyed Lisl gets distracted by flatmate Kelly, a wild American party animal, who gives her advice on the British culture, and constantly leads her in awkward predicaments. It is not long before a lovesick Hansl racks her down.

DEVELOPMENT PLAN: The sitcom is written in a web-series format as well as in a "traditional" sitcom format. As for now, the aim is to produce the shorter episodes for the web-series as they are cheaper and easier to produce. With that the aim is to create a fanbase and then develop it into a TV sitcom or get accepted at VOD platform such as Netflix or Amazon Prime. In January there will be a table read with the actors for the other episodes. After that I am trying to fundraise money to produce those episodes. Parallel to this I will finalise the locations and try to find a team for behind the camera. Currently, I am looking for a camera operator who also does simple lighting.

FUNDRAISING: The 2,000 pounds would be used to produce three other episodes. The pilot episode was about 1500 pounds, which included location rent, equipment rent, catering and mostly post-production: editing, mastering, music composing, colour correction, plus some extra money for festival applications. As for the other episodes the plan is to produce it cheaper and shoot 3 episodes in one go.

That saves costs regarding locations, as we would shoot for example all the therapy scenes of each episodes in one go, then all then all the scenes in Lisl's house in one go. That saves costs on transport and location rent. Other costs will be equipment rent: this includes camera and light. I am currently looking for a camera operator with their own equipment which could cut costs on that side. I have a sound recordist for the show, who would be doing the sound recording on set and the mastering in post production for a low price.

Other production expenses that need to be covered with the fundraising are catering, make-up and transport. Catering will include up to 4 actors per scene on-set plus a minimum of 6 team members (camera, director, sound recordist, production assistant, make-up artist, producer), so all in all about 10+ people per shooting day.

As there are some scenes that play in comedy clubs we will have about 20 people on set with the extras. Expenses for the post production will include editing and mastering and possible music, if there are other pieces we need other than those that already has been made for the pilot. On top of that there will be expenses for festival application. Aim is to shoot the next three episodes before the summer and release the first one in autumn 2019.

If you every want to get involved and be an audience member and listen to a table read, get in contact and be part of the process! :)
